Memorial minute

Peter was born and raised in San Mateo and lived there his entire life. He attended Hillsdale High School and the College of San Mateo, earning his Associate Degree. He worked for the US Postal Service at the Accounting Service Center for 35 years from where he retired in December of 2017. He is survived by his mother Paula Rothaug and his brother Christian Rothaug.

Peter was ready to retire and look for new opportunities in retirement. After major surgery in December, he recuperated at his mother’s in Grass Valley, but returned to his home in San Mateo. In July he took a month long vacation in England where he visited relatives and our former member, Ruth Frasier.

Peter loved animals and was thinking about volunteering at an animal shelter in San Mateo. He also considered traveling to Portland, Oregon to see if he would like to retire there. He found joy and happiness wherever he was.

He participated in activities at the senior center, California Clubhouse, and a German singing group. He loved Ben Lomond Quaker Center where he was a regular attender. He especially liked Tod’s cooking. He was an active member of the Congregation Etz Chayim in Palo Alto as well as San Francisco Friends Meeting. He will be missed.
