Approval of a Gaza Minute

Dear Friends: During the 2024 Annual Session of Pacific Yearly Meeting, a group of Friends approached our Peace and Social Order Committee (PSO) about writing a social concern minute on the war in Israel and Palestine. Two members of PSO listened to concerned Friends and then gathered in a small ad hoc committee, similar to an epistle committee and labored together to create a minute to present to the Annual Session body at the first available plenary. There was no sense of unity at that plenary, and we returned the proposed minute to our ad hoc committee with suggestions for clarifying the minute. Changes were made, the social concern minute was read at the next plenary session, and the Annual Session reached unity on the minute. PSO included a suggestion in their report that PacYM could use a similar process for developing social concern minutes at future Annual Sessions. ~~~
