Write for Western Friend: Spiritual Gifts
Please consider submitting a piece to Western Friend’s March / April 2026 edition: Spiritual Gifts.
For this upcoming edition of the magazine I'm looking for ways in which Friends name and manage Spiritual Gifts.
Gift naming is a Quaker practice of noticing the Gifts in others. According to Friends General Conference in this piece called Naming Spiritual Gifts in the Meeting:
“The community usually names gifts, rather than the individual who carries them. However, because many people move often, some Friends name the gifts they bring when they join a new community.
The community plays an important role in recognizing gifts of the Spirit in a loving and supportive way. When the community does not name gifts, Friends may struggle to use them well.”
Some queries to consider:
How do you notice the Gifts of those in your meeting? Who has noticed your Gifts?
Do you feel your Gifts are put to good use, do some of them wait unrecognized?
How do Friends in West succeed in the nurturing of Spiritual Gifts?
In what ways can Friends in the West grow into the naming Spiritual Gifts in their communities?
What happens when a long stable Spiritual Gift recedes?
The deadline is February 1, 2026.
